Well, actually, lol, it's not. In the reply I left you on my other Comcast post, I realized there's another explanation at the link I added for race condition (emphasis mine):

"In a network, a race condition may occur if two users attempt to access an available channel at the same instant, and neither computer receives notification the channel is occupied before the system grants access. "

Since that's sort of...fuzzy...I clicked through to the "channel" link and saw confirmation that "optical fiber transmission" counts as a channel, so...(thinking about it, though, both could be true: it could be a caching issue, and L* and I could have hit the page at the same time. Technology, it is so très confusing...)
